Post Racial America

In 2008 America saw the election of the first black president in history. The assumption was that racism would die with the election. Recent events in Ferguson, Missouri show that the racial tensions have not died down. The racial tensions is in part due to the increase in police brutality. Today 60% of Americans have cell phones capable of taking a video. More people are now able to see first hand what the police are doing to people being arrested. When excessive force is used the majority of the time it is a black person being assaulted. Most of the time the cases against the police are dropped. It is important to make the police able to do their job without having to worry about the possibility of being reprimanded, but at the same time the use of excessive force should be stopped.

  1. It is very disappointing to see that racial profiling is still occurring even after all of the events that have been taking place over the past few months. But it is a problem and like Jimmy I agree that we need to bring it to a stop. I am tired of people stereotyping others. I have multiple friends of different races and when I see them stereotyped it makes me very angry and I try my best to stand up for them. Everybody is different, no matter what the color of there skin, and should be given equal opportunity without being catagorized.
